In her first solo exhibition, Stumpf utilizes the literal, conceptual, and associative qualities of ConTact Paper. The artist re-imagines and re-purposes this ubiquitous household product to create a series of wall reliefs, sculptures, and site-responsive installation. Through the tactile experience of manipulating this material, she explores concepts of concealing and revealing truth, denial, and domestic trauma. The work intends to question how we respond to the connection between our physical and emotional environments in the home where we may be most vulnerable.
Lauren Stumpf is an American artist born and raised in St. Louis, Missouri and resides in Portland, OR. She is a current resident at the Rainmaker Artist Residency and recently graduated from PNCA's MFA in Visual Studies program where she developed her interdisciplinary practice. She also holds a BFA with distinction in Printmaking from Webster University's Leigh Gerdine College of Fine Arts in St. Louis. Her sculptures, installation, an performative works explore areas of the domestic through a feminist lens, humor, poetics, the abject, and consumerism.
Opening reception featuring craft cocktails by Aria Gin.
