What do we send out into the world and what comes back to us? There are things we wish to share because they bring joy and others we wish to shed because they bring grief. Everyday, we are sending parts of ourselves into the world and receiving pieces of others in the form of emotions, ideas, text, images, and molecules. Dispersal is a practice in sending with the expectation of receiving, like conscious breathing, the idea of separation between individuals dissolve and human consciousness becomes more like water.
Dispersal is a celebration of mail art, with its roots in dada and the fluxus movement, artists seeking something antithetical to the pretention and consumerism of the art world. In contemporary times, the tactile communication of mail art becomes antithetical to the short attention span and disconnected connection of digital communication.
This international mail art show beckons artists from all over the world to share and shed what they will, on view for an in person show in Portland, Oregon, USA, before being dispersed again. Artists who participate will receive an exchange of mail art. Attendees are invited to participate in making a piece of mail art to be sent in response to a piece in the show.
Dispersal is organized by artists Jason Berlin and Veronica Reeves in Portland, OR, USA.For more information about Dispersal please email Jason Berlin firstname.lastname@example.org or Veronica Reeves: email@example.com
